Dreaming of Butterflies and Angels

Soooo Beautiful this morning watching the sunrise from my chaise lounge... Coffee in hand... a misty fog lingering in the trees. There is something so magical about this time of morning. Peaceful, Calm... it's the time of day that dreams are birthed!

I'm dreaming of butterflies, women dancing with butterfly wings, Angels. Wouldn't that be fun glass?

Last week I shipped my last box of female lampwork glass scuba divers to Artful Home. "Jacqueline" is now live on their website.... to check her out follow this link

I am now working on an order to send to Georgia. There is a small gift shop in Newnan Georgia that carries some of my smaller pieces and they need to be replenished. I made a few smaller version Mermaid ornaments for them and some cool Sharks Sculptures.

Of course... I loved them so much.. I had to make some for my Etsy shop as well!!

Here are some Pics of what I have been working on...

Do you ever wonder how I manage to pack such delicate glass work? Come.. have a look!

So I have been working on a large wholesale order of Lampwork Glass Scuba Diver Ornaments since June 10th.. Phew.. it's been a challenge.. one that has certainly stretched me. I learned some new things about myself and as I was packing the first box of 30 today I could see my growth artistically as the weeks went on. I began to make them with more confidence.. I have to admit.. the very first day sitting down at the torch knowing that 90 divers lay ahead of me.. I was a bit overwhelmed. wondering if I had bitten off more than I could chew... but with the final week of production approaching and the first box ready to be shipped, I can feel the excitement of a job well done!

This is what a box of 30 ornamental divers looks like...

It's Huge! 16 x 16 x 16.... 7 lbs..

I get the question often about the safety in shipping such delicate glass around the world so I thought I would photograph this shipment and show you...

Each item is wrapped in white tissue paper, filling any gaps, and making the first cushion layer. I wrap until all the hard edges are gone. Then each piece gets wrapped in Bubble Wrap to create an inch or more barrier around it. Depending on the piece it might get as many as 5 or six layers of bubble wrap.

Then the final step is to add more layers of Bubble Wrap to the top of the packaging. The idea is that the art glass sculptures are nestled inside the box in their own protective pocket so if they should get jostled around, thrown around etc. they are like little suma wrestlers and have lots of padding to protect them at impact.

I have shipped all around the world in the twenty years I have been a glass artist and this is what I have done for them all.. It works great!!

Ooo and what does that Lampwork Glass Female Scuba Diver look like...

And.. she is an exclusive for the gallery who placed the wholesale order!! If you are interested email me,,,  and I will give you their info when she is ready for sale through their website!

Have the most Beautiful Day.. I'm off to pack some more!!

Handmade Lampwork Glass Cabochon Buttons in a Diamond Tufted Headboard

Imagine a headboard done in a Diamond Tuft that you have created in your own style, with your own unique fabric. Now picture within that tufting that the buttons are made from glass. And each of those glass buttons were created one at a time specifically with you in mind. No two are alike although each holds properties of the others. They are all as unique as you are. Individual. Sparkling. They change with the changing light of the day. They have multiple depths, angles and colors. Aww… What a dream headboard! This is what I was honored to be part of! Someone's dream of the perfect bed! I made 13 frit implosion glass #cabochons for her to glue on metal button shanks and use in her dream headboard!

Handmade Glass Buttons

This photo represents 11 of the 13 buttons. This is just one of the many ways to incorporate Sparkling, Light Reflecting, Art Glass Cabochons into your everyday life! I do hope when the final bed is done she will share a picture with us. How fun to see the end results!!

#Pink Frit #Glass, Origins #Boro Blush.. What a pretty Bubble Gum Pink!

Boro Frit Glass, Pink Blush
Origins Pink Blush, Boro Frit Glass
One of my newest purchases! Loving the bright pink color! It is a WYSIWYG.. What you see is what you get color, unlike some of the other boro glass that has multiple hues depending on your application and heating.
Blush Glass Rod
Boro Bar Blush Rod
I have used the rods for a couple of years and always love the soft pink color I get from it. It is an easy to use color, smooth, just keep your flame bushy by reducing the Oxygen, or it could boil.

This is one of my Fave things to create using the Boro Bar! I haven't had much time to play with the frit yet but I can't wait!!

Maybe I can slip in a play day between my custom orders!!

Coyotes in the Morning Spark Creativity and Imagination

Howling Coyotes.. Picture Courtesy of
The sound of their howls in the distance creates electricity in the air and stirs the creative soul!! Something in me resonates with the sound..What is it about these magnificent creatures, like their brother the wolf that stirs up the imagination? It is both exciting and eerie at the same time. Being a huge fan of dogs and having a passion to know more about them, the coyotes intrigue me!!! Why are they howling? and so late in the morning! Are they calling to their friends? I found a few answers... they howl to bring their Pack ( or family) back together after a hunt,, and to let other coyotes in the area know they are there and it is their territory!

To read more about the coyotes in the picture above  Read.... Michael Fryes Yosemite Journal

As I was searching for why they howl I found a YouTube video entitled, " How to Howl Like a Wolf "... thought I'd include the link in this blog.. purely for fun!!

So this was my morning.. out early to take the dogs on a run.. 1/2 way through we heard the yipes and howls.. Oddly it didn't effect my dogs but the hunting dogs at the top of my street went crazy!

Hmm.. maybe I should start making glass Coyotes!! But... how to begin... Oh ya.. with Passion!! I have that!!

But first..... 45 more Scuba Diver Ornament to go..... and so.. Off to the studio...

Boro Glass Cabochons Triple Passion and Turbo Cobalt

Lampwork Glass Cabochon, Passion Frit Implosion
In trying to explain how borosilicate glass works I made three glass cabochons using the same colors, the same techniques, one right after the other to show the differences and uniqueness in each. Just like a snow flake, they look similar, but no two are alike.
Boro Glass Button with bright orange frit
Textured Frit Glass Cabochon, Handmade
All Three of these large frit glass implosion cabochons were made using Triple Passion Frit and backing it in Turbo Cobalt. All three turned out a different hue. The first two really look nothing alike. The first one took on more purples and magenta.. it looks light and wispy like a fairy garden. The second one took on more feathery flares in orange looking like flames or the heads of grain. The Third Lampwork Cabochon has an element of both. on the left side it looks like the textured purple and magenta of the first and on the right side it it has the feathery orange flare of the second.

I think that these three are a perfect example of how the frit implosion glass is all a happenstance. I can control it to a certain degree but really it ends up just being about a chemical reaction, how the metals in the colored glass react to the heat from the flame releasing their own separate gases being trapped into the the clear glass and forming their own unique patterns, shade, colors and design!

Boro Glass can render at least three different hues within one color... it somewhat has a mind of it's own.. sometimes I can get a consistent color and or pattern but.. usually they are all different..

Every time I open the kiln and remove these cabochons I am amazed to find a new color! I think I will never tire of making these little glass treasures!

Flamework Black Glass Shark Sculpture

Flamework Glass Shark Sculpture
Black Glass Shark Swimming Over Finger Coral... 2013
Sleek Black Glass Shark with a warm caramel and black stripe around its body. It is swimming over a butterscotch glass finger coral and sitting upon a frit implosion paperweight with black clay bottom.

This is something new I am trying with the clay bottom. It kind of gives it more stability and girth and just adds another area of interest. I like how how it looks and it is fun to break out the clay again.

I made this black shark and a teal glass shark like it in May. I think the fact that the sun was out and the days were getting warmer made me miss Maui.. so.. I of course thought of the water, the ocean the sharks.. voila  .. shark art!

Flamework Shark Art, Ocean predator

I kind of feel like this is a window in to the world under the sea. A Predators life. swimming along the ocean floor in and out of the coral reef in search of his next meal. What magnificent creatures they are!!

Art Glass Flower Sculpture
Flamework Glass Sculpture.., Peaceful Flower.. Wendy Williams.. 2013

I found a new passion.. well.. it lasted for a week! Making Flower Sculptures. This is the first of two that I Titled; "Peaceful Flower"
Peaceful Flower.. Wendy Williams 2013
My inspiration is the Spring and all of the wonderful blooms that I see waking my dogs every day.

Peaceful Flower.. Wendy Williams.. 2013
I am so fortunate that I can go on daily dream journeys with them and smell the wonderful scents of honey suckle and jasmine. I get to see all the changes in the landscape as it appears and disappears every new season. Or sometimes from morning till noon, like the mushroom village that sprang up over night around my salvia, then disappeared by lunch time. It was the perfect lilliputian village.. you know.. Gullivers Travels..

Peaceful Flower.. Wendy Williams... 2013
The shading in the petals are so unique.. they are peach, tangerine, mossy green with a bit of fuchsia thrown in for fun.. Yumm!!

Peaceful Flower.. Wendy Williams.. 2013
And just because I like Art Nouveau shapes I made the stem and the leaves free flowing organic shapes.

The flower and leaves rest upon a beveled square 3x3 piece of glass.

Swimming my way through May.. Sealife Ornaments

teal glass shark
Teal Glass Hammer Head Ornament.. Wendy Williams.. 2013
May has certainly been different this year from last. It is cooler and rainy. We had so much rain here in the South on Sunday and Monday that I had lake front property. The river behind my house came up and over the 12ft embankment flooding the lower pasture and woods. It was certainly beautiful and I loved opening the windows to hear the sound of the rushing water.

I guess it was the feeling of the water all around that made me a little homesick for Maui. I loved waking up in the mornings on Maui and walking on baby beach with my buster dog.

It also made me think of Snorkeling off of Black Rock in Kaanapali. I never did see any Seahorses but plenty of fish and turtles.. and once a shark.

Glass Flame Sculptures - Finished!

Glass Flame
Glass Flame Sculpture by Wendy Williams.. 2013
This is how the first flame sculpture turned out. I made a pile of color samples (check out this Link for some of those pics) to get to this point. There are three center flames rising high with four supporting, dancing flames around it.

She Loved it so much she wanted a small one made for herself.. The first one was for a present. So we came up with this design..

Lampwork Glass Flame Sculpture
Glass Flame Sculpture, Mini

She wanted one using only oranges and yellow in a random pattern. This one feels more playful!

Her husband saw the pictures and wanted one for Himself.. Larger than the first with less Red and more Orange.. Here is what I came up with for him..

Elegant Glass Flame Sculpture.. Wendy Williams.. 2013

It's amazing how they all use the same colors and technique and yet.. they are all so individual.. So Unique! This one feels Elegant!

In the process of making lampwork glass flames

Good Morning!!

Boro Glass Flames
The Glass flames are coming along. I started with the one on the far left hoping that I could get some Amber/Purple in the design. I forgot to take into consideration the fact that the Orange and Yellow glass are worked in a neutral to reduced flame while the Amber/Purple likes an Oxidizing flame. I read that the amber/purple can turn grey-green I have just never seen it... until yesterday.

Red Orange Glass Flame
This one is my fave. I like the feathering, it has an abstract kinda flickering flame design within a design. It is created using a tungsten rake. After laying on the colors heat just a small area and rake through the colors.. repeat it as often as you like then finish the piece as you would normally.

I want to add some yellow to this and maybe leave the tops more orange.

Bright Orange Glass Flame
I like this rake through as well. Reminds me of Orange Sherbert Ice Cream.. My summer time Favorite!!

Off to the studio to try some more color combos.. it really is unlimited.. I might have to make several of these.

Have the most Beautiful Day!!

I'm an Artist

Happy Monday to ya! So.. I tried to be consistent with my blog. Write every Tuesday and Thursday, make it interesting etc.. but... I'm an artist.. I live on a whim and I'm only usually interested in what I am doing Now. I like to flow in whats going on in the moment... So I guess my blog will have to be just like me... kinda scattered but fun!! He He! Just random notes from my life...

Female Glass Scuba Diver Ornament by Wendy Williams.. 2011

Today is such a gorgeous day!! The sun and warmth decided to grace this day!! Which is awesome cause I have lots of work to do today in the studio. I am still in the process of making these little female scuba diver ornaments and submitting them to a jury panel for selection in a wholesale order... I have three more to make and send.. Wish me luck!! I think I would like doing this.. It's absolute hard work but at the end of the day I get paid!! Woo Hoo!! I like that!! On an average I work between 50-70hrs a week.. and sometimes with no pay. I absolutely LOve what I do and would not trade it for anything,, well,, maybe to work with animals.. But.. I'm just saying.. it's good to get paid!

I have a couple of custom orders to figure out as well... one will be sculptural flames!! I like that idea!! and the other remembrance beads.. Not sure how to do this one or even if I can.. I have lots of research ahead of me.. it involves "Imploding" a mothers ashes into the center of a frit glass cabochon. I'll let you know what I find out.. if it can be done and what it might possibly look like.. I think ash.. like say.. from a volcano, turns grey-green when incorporated into hot glass... I want to be sure of what will happen before I take this commission on cause I want to be very careful with something so dear to the clients heart.

Anyway.... that's my day so far!!

Happy Monday to ya!!!

Swimming Female Art Glass Sculpture

Female Art Glass Swimmer Sculpture.. Wendy Williams.... 2012

This lovely lady was a first for me in creating tutorials.  Last summer I was asked to make a swimmer tutorial and submit it to the Flow Magazine. I was thrilled and nervous at the same time. How do you hold a glass rod in an open flame creating a sculpture while taking "in focus" good quality pictures at the same time?? What a challenge! I set up my Tripod and Camera and went to work on it.. It took weeks and some remakes and re-takes.. but.. I was able to document the whole process...
Female Art Glass Swimmer Sculpture.. Wendy Williams.. 2012

I think she turned out Awesome. I am very happy with the form, shape and flow that she took on. I've waited many months and finally she has been featured in the magazine. She is in the Spring issue of the flow.. pg. 38. If you don't  receive  the magazine you can go to the flow and order a pdf pf the tutorial or get a subscription.

Here's a little sample, Female Art Glass Body in process.. step # 10

In this tutorial I take you all the way through the process of forming the legs, torso, and head, then combining all the parts as well as tips for forming the curved pieces that represent the waves

The pieces that will make up the waves.. step # 21
From start to finish there are 24 steps.. Have fun with it!! To see a more pictures of the finished sculpture, read the full description or to purchase her follow this link to Morning Light Glass on Etsy.

Any Questions or comments?? I'd Love to here from you!! Have the most Beautiful Day

Stepping Out Female Glass Sculpture by Wendy Williams.. 2013

Just like my Sculpture I am Stepping out in faith to find who I am called to be artistically, creatively and spiritually. I want to be authentic. Not a copy. Sometimes stepping out of my comfort zone is.. well.. uncomfortable.... But if I never seek change I will never know what Freedom can feel like. Freedom to create what inspires me, Freedom to Worship like no one is watching, and Freedom to live my life on Fire.

Female Art Glass Sculpture by Wendy Williams.. 2013

I feel I have to step out of the shadow of good enough and go after the very best!! I'm still in the trial stage.. so there is lots of growth to come.

Stepping out Art Glass Figure by Wendy Williams.. 2013

We each have a destiny.. a destiny that God planned for us before we were even born. A destiny that is filled with our hopes, dreams, passions and desires.. It is up to us to go after them.. And I'm ready!!
